Amarantha Birkel, PT, DPT
Dr. Amarantha Birkel is a licensed Physical Therapist in the state of New York with a specialization in Pilates rehabilitation. Dr. Birkel received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from SUNY Stony Brook, and completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Biological Sciences degree at Virginia Tech. She has clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics, sports rehabilitation, and sub-acute rehabilitation
Dr. Birkel is also a "Third Generation" Classical Pilates Instructor with certification and training from the United States Pilates Association (a Subsidiary of The New York Pilates Studios). She has experience incorporating the authentic Pilates method to treat differing musculoskeletal impairments, multiple sclerosis, post-natal issues, as well as amputees, improving patients' overall quality of life and fitness. She teaches private lessons, serving as an option for patients seeking a safe exercise maintenance program after discharge.
Dr. Birkel has a strong interest in both sports and orthopedics, and enjoys an extremely active lifestyle, whether it is rock climbing, Pilates, hiking, or weight lifting. She is eager to share her passions of fitness and wellness with her patients, and truly believes movement is medicine.
