WELLNESS

Wellness is the opposite of illness. Your journey toward wellness begins when our doctor of physical therapy looks at the factors that might keep you from being well. We evaluate your individual abilities, limitations and lifestyle and develop a plan to help you get past illness or impairment. Then we focus on helping you stay well. We teach you to protect yourself against problems that can limit your quality of life.

Physical fitness is essential to wellness. That's why your customized wellness program will include a fitness plan to help you increase strength, muscle tone, stamina and flexibility.

Pilates

Pilates is an exercise program that emphasizes strengthening the core muscles of the abdomen and back using apparatus and mat training. We customize sessions based on your own individual needs and goals. Your sessions begin with an individual assessment followed by private, semiprivate or group classes. The program is ideal for a wide range of ages and abilities - people who are looking for a great workout to enhance overall health and wellness.

We can even design a wellness program for you after senior physical therapy or Medicare insurance benefits run out. And you don't need a doctor's referral for wellness. Other wellness programs we offer include:

  • Yoga

  • Tai-Chi

  • Fall Prevention

  • Balance Training

  • Aging Well

  • Active Aging

AQUATIC THERAPY

Aquatic therapy is an ideal type of physical therapy for seniors. In the safe and comforting environment of water, the body can engage in what becomes essentially weightless exercise. Water decreases the effects of gravity and compression and allows for better swelling control. It’s a safer alternative to land-based physical therapy.

At Metro Physical Therapy, we offer aquatic therapy for seniors that can help improve pain from orthopedic conditions, sports injuries, joint replacement or arthritis. Working with a skilled aquatic therapist, you’ll engage in specific protocols for increasing strength, stamina and flexibility. This physical therapy for elderly individuals is both comfortable and powerful. It’s been shown to make a dramatic difference in mobility and, in some cases, to give patients a new lease on life.
